Television director and actor Clark Johnson makes an impressive feature-film debut with S.W.A.T., inspired by the 1970s show of the same name. Set in modern-day Los Angeles, the film follows recently demoted officer Jim Street (Colin Farrell), who gets a chance to redeem himself when veteran officer Hondo (Samuel L. Jackson) takes charge of a new team. The team includes outcasts Deke Kay (LL Cool J), Michael Boxer (Brian Van Holt), T.J. McCabe (Josh Charles), and Chris Sanchez (Michelle Rodriguez). After rigorous training, they are ready for action. Their first major assignment involves capturing one of the world’s most dangerous criminals, Alex Montel (Olivier Martinez), who offers $100 million to anyone who can break him out of jail. This sparks a frenzy, including Jim’s former partner, Brian Gamble (Jeremy Renner), who uses his S.W.A.T. experience to plan a daring escape. It’s up to Hondo and Jim to outsmart the criminals and ensure Alex’s safe transfer to a federal penitentiary. S.W.A.T. is an engaging adventure that balances high-quality drama with thrilling action.
